UPDATED: Police, fire and ambulance crews are attending an incident on Ryde Esplanade this evening (Tuesday), where a car has mounted the pavement, driven around 100m and crashed into a plant pot.
Shocked witnesses have described to Island Echo seeing the Nissan Qashqai do a U-turn in the road before driving up the kerb and along the walkway onto North Walk.
Fire crews are assisting paramedics with moving the vehicle to gain access to the driver’s door as a result of it becoming wedged against a large palm tree planter.
Its thought the driver has suffered a medical episode at the wheel.
UPDATE @ 21:18 – The driver of the vehicle has been helped into the ambulance and is being assessed by paramedics.
Fire crews and Police have now stood down.
The vehicle has been moved to a place of safety.
