UPDATED: A car has crashed into a traffic light near Cowes tonight (Friday), leading to delays in the area.
Police are on scene at the junction of Oxford Road and Newport Road in Northwood, alongside colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Island Echo is told that a black estate car has been involved in the collision. Significant damage has been caused to both the vehicle and the street furniture – a pedestrian crossing.
Traffic is heavy in the area.
UPDATE @ 20:47 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are now on scene but no one is thought to be trapped.
Motorists should avoid the area.
UPDATE @ 21:05 – It is understood the driver of the vehicle has been arrested by Police on suspicion of a driving offence. He has been taken into custody at Newport Police Station.
