Police and Paramedics are in attendance at a road traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle in Newport Town Centre this morning (Thursday), which has resulted in a busy road being closed.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to the scene on St George’s Approach at around 11:00, with blue light colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service joining them at the exit to Morrisons and M&S car park shortly after.
The incident has seen a white VW Polo collide with a motorcycle – an electric scooter.
The rider is currently being tended to by paramedics.
Police have closed the road from the junction with St George’s Way to Medina Avenue.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being with traffic currently heavy in the area.
UPDATE @ 11:58 – The rider of the electric motorcycle has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
The elderly occupants of the VW have been checked over by paramedics and have now left the scene.
Recovery of the vehicles is being arranged.
UPDATE @ 12:56 – Police have confirmed that the rider of the scooter has suffered serious injuries.
However, St George’s Approach has now re-opened in both directions.
Hope all involved are OK and nothing too serious.

You take their blood tests or something? People have accidents you know not everything involves drugs, you just make yourself look a moron because you feel the need to complain and be negative. You don’t know these people, someone’s been badly injured and you’re immediately ridiculing them for being on drugs, when you have absolutely zero clue on the situation, I doubt you even read about it, just saw the headline and the photo and thought “those drug drivers” grow up, it’s pathetic.
