The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have mobilised to reports of a property fire in Brading tonight (Friday).
2 fire appliances are currently on scene at The Mews off the High Street, behind the town’s shop.
An ambulance crew from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also on scene.
Fire control have confirmed that the incident has been caused by burnt food left in the oven.
A male casualty has been ‘brought round’ despite his working smoke alarms sounding.
The casualty is being checked over by paramedics.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire Control has said:
“We have on behalf of the Isle of Wight FRS mobilised to High street, Brading where a male casualty has been brought round even though his alarm was sounding due to burnt food in the oven.”
They also go on to remind residents that working smoke alarms save lives.

Was he drugged or drunk then not to hear the alarms and act as others would? Or was he old, disabled and unable to react normally?
Seems odd if alarms went off you would not awaken.
