A broken down Southern Vectis bus is blocking a main road in Newport Town Centre this afternoon (Saturday).
The incident has seen the double decker break down on the pedestrian crossing outside McDonald’s on the corner of St James’ Street and South Street.
As a result of the breakdown, traffic heading up South Street cannot use the road heading toward Hunnhyhill.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Can’t park there mate
Simply bang it in second gear, let the clutch up, then turn the key and crank it over on the starter and use the battery to pull it to one side to allow normal traffic to flow.
How exactly do you bang an automatic into second gear and let the clutch up Mr Smart?
Also, with no engine running you’ll have no air pressure.

Buses today don’t have clutches you can hear a bus changing gear it’s auto same as trucks tiptronic

At least Ive searle is commenting about Gabon cages on the appropriate story and they seem to offer some conclusive arguments; plus as tarmac is very bad for the environment I think there mindset would be against that so it’s just people like you who impede on any advancement we can make as decent human beings to reach a point of a successful civilisation… sorry if these words are too big for your mind
Seems to be in rather a pickle. My old driving instructor told me, that if one puts the immovable vehicle in second gear, doesn’t depress the clutch, and then cranks the engine over with the key, the broken, immovable vehicle will move, albeit slowly into a safer or less awkward area.
Handy to remember if ever stuck on a rail crossing or other dangerous area motorists.
That may work if one is driving a manual vehicle, but one might struggle with an automatic that has an inhibitor that won’t allow you to start the engine whilst the gear selector is in drive!

Just to note for those talking about gears buses are automatic
Considering how much rain we got, probably got water in the engine. Fossil fuel engines don’t run so well with water in them.
Never had this sort of problem with the old horse-drawn buses.
