Pupils at Broadlea Primary School in Lake have celebrated success in a book bag design competition while also helping mark the start of renovation works at Manor Road Play Park.
Funded by Lake Parish Council as part of the National Year of Reading campaign, every pupil at the school was invited to design artwork for new book bags.
Sisters Lacey Rose and Kiyah were selected as the winning designers and were presented with boxes of chocolates by Lake Parish Council Chairman, Councillor Paul Brading.
The celebrations coincided with the launch of the Manor Road Play Park renovation project, which pupils helped to mark alongside parish representatives.
Head Teacher Mrs Torrance has said:
“Working with the support of the Parish Council and the local community, children at the school have been able to replenish the flower beds at the Railway Station.
“We have received additional sets of books to support group and class reading lessons, and book bags have been made available to all of our children. We are very much looking forward to a new and improved after school play park for the children to enjoy.”
Councillor Paul Brading has said:
“As someone that went to this school 50 years ago, it is heartening to see pupils getting involved in community projects such as Manor Road, and the Parish Council is committed to supporting initiatives that benefit the youth and community of the Parish.”
The work forms part of the Bay Place Plan project, delivered with Isle of Wight Council and local community groups. The wider programme also supports warm spaces, Men In Sheds and other community services.
