Ryde Carnival organisers have announced that they have cancelled this year’s carnival celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning the event won’t be taking place for the second year running.
The team behind the Island’s oldest carnival have tonight (Thursday) said:
“It comes with great sadness and after much deliberation, we have decided that for a second year running we are going to have to cancel our carnival season.
Article continues below this advertisement “Although things seem to be heading in the right direction we feel we won’t be able to meet the safety measures that would be required for such a large event.
“All we can do at this present time is hope that we keep heading in the right direction so that next year we can come back bigger and better than ever, and do what we love doing which is entertaining everyone in Ryde, and across the Island.
“Please stay safe and look after yourselves. And if anyone wants to get involved with Ryde Carnival please get in touch. We are always looking for volunteers.”
Earlier this month it was confirmed that the Island’s other carnivals would also not be taking place, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Tonight’s news will no doubt come as a blow for Islanders who were looking forward to returning to normality in the summer months, with hopes that Ryde Carnival would take place more than 2 months after COVID restrictions are lifted on 21st June.
Now the organisers of they Festival should do the Right & decent thing & Cancel the Festival

And still the Giddings GREED machine of a festival is apparently still going ahead, I see the council are very quiet about the Isle of Wight Festival… Why???? surely they issue licences and stuff so why the silence.
Council get a good cut from festival…No way they’ll cancel that! But So ludicrous a carnival is though.
I will no longer be kept like a prisoner in my home I’ve done my bit last year and the beginning of this.. Now I’ve been vaccinated I’m living my best life.. No more lockdown for me!
I think you’ll be standing in the field on your own then!!!! Ha Ha Ha. I will be most surprised and shocked, if the festival goes ahead. Too soon this year. Totally irresponsible if it does.
I was on the understanding that it’s been moved to mid September??? Do a little research first maybe? As for the carnival, not worth the risk and is pretty pointless,it doesn’t bring any money to the island, x
First thing that springs to mind IOW FESTIVAL….. No way is this ever gonna happen. Mr Giddings gets a lot of money to put into an account and gain some interest on from the people who have paid for tickets, don’t want to cancel just roll them over for the next time?!?!?!?
