Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was launched shortly after 15:10 this afternoon (Wednesday) at the request of Solent Coastguard to medivac a crew member with a compound fracture from 1 of a flotilla of Clipper Venture yachts.
Conditions were quite rough in the Force-6 West-South-westerly breeze but it did not take them long to reach the yacht – once the right 1 among the flotilla of ‘CV’ yachts had been identified.
As it was initially too rough to safely transfer the casualty to the ‘Frank and Anne Wilkinson’ lifeboat, it was decided to transfer 2 of the lifeboat crew to the yacht.
Once done it was agreed the Lifeboat would accompany the yacht back to Gosport Marina where an ambulance was ready to take the casualty to hospital.
After this had been successfully achieved and the crew members were back onboard, the lifeboat returned to the offshore boathouse and was re-housed by 18:00.
It follows an earlier shout for Bembridge’s NLB Norman Harvey (Inshore Lifeboat D-778) in today’s rough conditions, as previously reported by Island Echo.

It’s fantastic we’ve got all the emergency services surrounding us they do a great job .
I just wonder why it’s the police who get slated for various reasons time and time again when there’s nothing but thankfulness and praise for the other services
Maybe someone can answer my question
