Bembridge RNLI launched its all-weather lifeboat after an unidentified object was spotted from the offshore boathouse this afternoon (Sunday).
RNLB Alfred Albert Williams was launched at 14:25 when the object was spotted roughly 250m to the North East of the Offshore Boathouse – in the vicinity of Cole Rock.
After discussions with Solent Coastguard, it was decided to launch the Tamar-class lifeboat to try and identify the object seen from Lane End.
Unfortunately, the poor weather conditions and visibility were against the lifeboat crew.
Despite their best efforts, having thoroughly searching the area, they were unable to find the unidentified object.
The lifeboat was later returned to the Boathouse and recovered by 15:30.
A spokesperson from Bembridge RNLI said:
“Conditions on the slipway were quite lumpy but Duty Coxswain James Pink demonstrated a textbook recovery.”
