A beach fire which could have easily spread to nearby woodland has been extinguished by firefighters in the West Wight this morning (Sunday).
1 retained appliance from Freshwater was mobilised to the scene at Fort Victoria near Yarmouth after a conscientious member of the public reported the situation via 999 at just before 08:20.
Fire crews extinguished the camp fire using sea water and sand, as well as ensuring the entire area was dampened down.
The single crew spent less than 30 minutes on scene.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is once again urging people not to light fires outdoors around beautiful public spaces and beauty spots.
