Police have cordoned off a section of East Cowes seafront following the discovery of a body this morning (Saturday).
Officers are currently in attendance at Old Castle Point – the most northerly tip of the Island – after the deceased was found near the castle ruin earlier on today.
A gazebo is being erected at the scene.
Members of the public are being diverted away from the area with the beach and revetment closed past the playground.
The no through road has also been closed to motorists near the dinghy park.
The circumstances of the death are currently unclear, however Hampshire Constabulary are expected to issue a statement later on today.
UPDATE @ 09:05 – Island Echo understands that the discovery was made at the water line by a local dog walker.
Police were called to the Esplanade by members of the public sometime before 06:30.
UPDATE @ 12:05 – Police are appealing for information to help identify the body of a man.
It has been confirmed that a body was found in East Cowes at 06:15 this morning.
