A year after the launch of the Bay Area Place Plan, the partnership between Sandown, Lake, Shanklin, and the Isle of Wight Council is providing an update on its activities at its second AGM meeting tonight (Wednesday), at the Seventh Day Adventists Church, Lake.
You can also join live online via The Bay Business Association Facebook page.
Since its publication in January 2024, the Place Plan has provided a shared framework for regeneration – encouraging collaboration, creativity, and community-led action. The guiding principle of “Start Small and Snowball” is already delivering results through the Building the Bay Committee, who are spearheading projects from creative street art and networking events to youth and sports facilities that will bring visible change to the area.
A key success has been the formation of the Bay Business Association (BBA), launched 6 months ago. The BBA has quickly established itself as a positive force for local enterprise, organising networking events and creating promotional opportunities for businesses across the Bay.
Looking ahead, early planning has begun for larger-scale projects, including waterfront improvements, building regeneration and development of a new HE campus in the area.
A spokesperson has said:
“To find out more about these exciting projects and how you can help Building the Bay’s work, join us at the below address or visit The Bay Business Association on Facebook and follow the link for the event.”

I must give credit where credit is due, it is great
to finally see something being done along Sandown
High Street and along the Esplanade.
Keep up the good work.
