The Newchurch Male Voice Choir and the Sea Gels Shanty Band came together for a well-attended concert at the Isle of Wight Bus & Coach Museum in Ryde on Sunday (24th August), entertaining a packed audience with a lively and diverse programme of music.
The joint performance, dubbed a ‘Ticket to Ryde’, has become a popular annual event in support of the museum’s ongoing preservation efforts.
Opening the afternoon, the Newchurch Male Voice Choir debuted their latest piece, ‘Let All Men Sing’. A timely highlight came during their rendition of ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’, when an Island Line train rumbled past, adding an unexpected live effect to the performance.
The crowd joined in enthusiastically during ‘Sweet Caroline’, with arms waving across the room. The Sea Gels later had the audience singing along and ‘hauling away’ to the rousing shanty ‘South Australia’.
Bob Cooper from the Newchurch Male Voice Choir has said:
“Thank you to the Sea Gels for supporting our concert once again and with the support of a large and happy audience raising much-needed funds for the museum to keep on with the enthusiastic work they are doing in keeping the memories of those buses and coaches of past times alive.”
The event continues to grow in popularity and remains a key fundraiser for the Isle of Wight Bus & Coach Museum.
