BAGS OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AND CASH FOUND BY YOUNG CHILD IN NEWPORT

UPDATED: An adventurous 4-year-old boy has discovered several bags of prescription drugs and an amount of cash stashed under a bush near his school in Newport today (Friday).

The shocking find occurred whilst the youngster and his mum were walking to Barton Primary School on Pan Estate this morning.

Concerns have been raised that other pills may be hidden elsewhere in the local area and could pose a danger to children and animals, especially as the drugs were not sealed.

Today’s news comes just days after a 15-year-old lad was hospitalised from nearby Garden Way. Police are investigating whether he had taken drugs that were stolen from Boots the Chemist in Bembridge earlier this week.

All of the pills and money found today have been handed in to the Police, who will no doubt be working to establish the source as a matter of urgency.

UPDATE @ 13:57 – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has this afternoon said:

“We were called at 9.52am this morning after a bag of prescription drugs were found by a member of the public under a bush on Garden Way in Newport.

“The items have been recovered by officers who are carrying out enquiries to establish if they are linked to any ongoing investigations.
