Bembridge RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat was launched this afternoon (Saturday) to assist multiple incidents at sea – but neither were related to this years Fort Walk.
Bembridge’s D-class boat was ‘self launched’ earlier this afternoon just before 16:15 after a sailing dinghy, with 1 person onboard, was spotted having problems clearing the edge of the Ledge in the ebbing tide.
It did not take the Bembridge crew long to reach the dinghy which had by then managed to free itself from difficulty.
Not long after though, a mayday call was then heard reporting a jetskier in Priory Bay who had come off his jetski and was unconscious in the water.
However, by the time the Norman Harvey reached Priory, the casualty had been picked up and taken in a rib to SVYC.
The D-class therefore made her way to SVYC’s slipway to see if they could provide medical assistance in anyway. By that time the jetskier had apparently regained consciousness and was last seen making his way back to find said jetski.
The Norman Harvey then returned to Lane End and was recovered by 17:30, before being launched once more to assist with this years Fort Walk.

An unconscious jet-skier? Is there any other kind?
