Firefighters, paramedics and police are in attendance at a 2-car road traffic collision on the main road between Newport and Godshill this morning (Tuesday), in which a car has overturned and come to a stop upside down on its roof.
The incident has occurred on Newport Road near to the Isle of Wight Farm Shop between Bohemia Corner and the village of Godshill.
Island Echo understands 2 cars have collided, resulting in a Ford Fiesta rolling onto its roof. A wheel has been ripped off the car. The other vehicle involved – a Nissan Juke – has ploughed into a hedge.
At least 2 women and 1 male are being tended to by paramedics, all of whom are described as walking wounded. 1 of the women was assisted from the car by firefighters.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has 2 appliances and the response support vehicle on scene, with the Isle of Wight Ambulance mobilising 2 ambulances and an operational commander.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash at around 07:00.
The road has been closed in both directions which is leading to a lengthy diversion for motorists and local buses this rush hour.
UPDATE @ 07:55 – 3 people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The road has now reopened ahead of recovery of the 2 vehicles.

Gracious! I do hope they’re all okay
For God sake that’s a straight piece of road. Some one not paying attention!
Must have been the forecast black ice on a bone dry road…..
The invisible black ice that never happened claims another victim lol
Appalling driving……….again!
How do you know, were you you a witness? – probably not!!!
Probably on the bloody mobile, as usual!!!
These crashed cars should be left on the side of roads, in order to remind drivers how bad driving standards are on the island…..
Yep, as bad as everywhere else in the UK.
True, but not as many roll onto their roof! That seems to be unique to the Island .
I don’t know the stats but Yam has a point. It does seem we get more rolling cars than the mainland, or is that just a perception because they are reported here?
Your right it’s the same everywhere people just don’t care that there’s anyone else on the road. When I see them on the webcam footage ì just can’t believe what’s going on
more drugged up saga louts no doubt
more like chavs showing off speeding like always
No doubt that you have no specific details of this incident and therefore shouldn’t assume as such.
Instead of people judging and making assumptions about what happened, let’s just be grateful that no one was seriously injured. Yes, there are a lot of accidents on the Island, as there are everywhere, but please keep nasty comments to yourselves until the facts are established. You clearly have nothing better to do. Glad everyone is ok
some of these comments are disgusting, people do not realise that accidents happen, i happen to know one of the drivers and i know for a fact they do not abuse drugs, or alcohol. for people to jump to conclusions like this is very upsetting, do not make snarky comments unless you know the full story.
You obviously mix with the wrong people then, STOP making excuses for bad driver’s!!!..
You seem to know everyone who’s involved in an accident on the Isle of Wight.
Another car on it’s roof what a suprise!!
There should be a 20 speed limit over there and more traffic lights and get rid of roundabouts. 20 is plenty for you guys
Judging by the amount of emergency vehicles present it could well have been most of the units on the island. When an emergency call comes in they must race to the scene to justify their jobs.
