A 47-year-old man has been arrested by Police in Shanklin after reports that a person was threatened with a bottle earlier this afternoon (Tuesday).
Officers were called to Regent Street at just before 14:00 in response to a public order incident.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that threats were made by a man that he would hit another person with a bottle.
It has been confirmed that a 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of public order and possession of cannabis.
He was detained and cuffed on the pavement outside Co-Operative at just before 14:15. Witnesses report seeing smashed glass in the area.
The suspect remains in custody at this time.

Although you would be forgiven for thinking otherwise, we still technically operate under the assumption that a person is innocent until proven guilty. If you go around showing the faces of everybody that’s arrested then not only are you prejudicing their case for a defence attorney to have a field day on when it comes to court, but you are potentially defaming and endangering an innocent person too.
It’s not about protecting criminals, it’s about protecting the potentially innocent. Thus, once they are convicted, their name, face, age, address, and anything else you could ever want to know all becomes publicly available. You can’t just get to pick and choose when our legal process is convenient and when you want to abandon it.
