Most people think that ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ is the first Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice show, but it wasn’t, they wrote ‘The Likes of Us’ back in 1965 and it’s coming to Trinity Theatre, Cowes later this year. Cowes Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (CAODS) is putting on this production at their Trinity Theatre in Cowes with performances between 13th-16th June 2024. CAODS is opening the auditions for this production to anyone who has a passion for singing and dancing and is holding information on Friday 19th January at 19:30 in the theatre auditorium, with auditions the following week. Luke Mulhern, Producer and Musical Director, says:
“This musical is a hidden gem, the songs are catchy, and you can hear snippets of music that Lloyd-Webber has reworked to use in other shows!”
The show follows Barnardo’s arrival in London’s East End in 1866, his initial evangelical work and his recognition of the plight and poverty amongst homeless children in the capital. It depicts Barnardo’s first meeting with Syrie Elmslie, who eventually became his wife, and how the first Barnardo’s home for children came into being in 1867. The subsequent Barnado’s Homes became famous all over the world. The show is sung through with a narrator who fills between the songs. If you love singing and/or dancing why not head along and find out more!
