The flying doctors of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance have landed in Ryde tonight (Friday) in response to a medical emergency in the town.
At just before 21:45, the air ambulance was scrambled from its base at Thruxton to aid the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service with a medical emergency.
A critical care paramedic, an ambulance crew and an operational commander are on scene at an address on Pelhurst Road, where the HEMS crew are now assessing the patient.
The yellow and green helicopter swooped low over Ryde Town at 22:00 as it circled to land at Ryde Golf Club, where the local operational commander was waiting to transfer the 2 air ambulance crew the short distance to Pelhurst Road.
The incident remains ongoing.
UPDATE @ 22:30 – The decision has been taken to fly the patient to hospital.
Paramedics and doctors have now relocated to the golf course to transfer the patient into the air ambulance for onward conveyance.
UPDATE @ 22:50 – Just under an hour after landing, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has now taken off and is conveying the patient direct to Southampton General Hospital.
