The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) has been scrambled to a serious motorcycle collision on the outskirts of Wootton this afternoon (Monday).
Police, firefighters and paramedics were first called to the scene on Briddlesford Road at around 15:15 following reports of a crash outside Briddlesford Farm.
Island Echo understands that the incident involves a Ford Kuga and a motorcycle, of unknown make/model.
Briddlesford Road is currently closed between Blacklands Lane and Wootton Common Crossroads and is expected to remain closed for some time.
This is the second time today that HIOWAA has responded to a road traffic collision on the Island following an earlier incident in Mottistone. Emergency services have also attended a single-vehicle collision in Cowes this afternoon.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – The Air Ambulance has now taken off from Wootton and is rushing 1 individual to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital. Their condition is unknown.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says officers are on scene carrying out enquiries.
UPDATE @ 17:50 – Specialist officers from the mainland-based Collision Investigation Unit have arrived in Wootton to begin their forensic examination of the crash scene.
Briddlesford Road is to remain closed for the remainder of the day.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is expected to provide an update on Tuesday morning.

It’s been a death trap for years.
I don’t understand why Council traffic authorities
have not seen the speeding problem along
Briddlesford Road and put in measures to make
Briddlesford Road a safe road to use.
There are so many Roads on the island that need speed
humps and speed camera’s placing.
Shame this one wasn’t to do with speed eh? Puts a real dampener on your dramatic flair worthy of an Oscar but hey, why let facts ruin a perfectly good island echo karma post?

I didn’t say it was due to speed, but from
what I have seen over the years, vehicles
treat Briddlesford Road as an Autobahn.
Sadly now a serious accident has taken place
maybe the authorities will put in safety measures
along the Briddlesford Road.
I don’t feel safe when driving on island roads.
I was with my son recently in the big smoke
safe as houses, he couldn’t drive faster than
20mph, there are camera’s everywhere, even
camera’s on top of camera’s, people dare not
speed.
It felt much safer than island roads.
The island have a lot to learn from the mainland.
I would suggest the head of the Council etc to
take a trip to the big smoke and see how safe
it is to drive in the big smoke.
The island MPs who have 2nd homes there must
see the difference when on the mainland.
If you don’t feel safe then don’t drive. Dithering slow drivers cause more accidents than speeding drivers because you go slower than the speed limit. We don’t need speed ramps that damage vehicles we need competent drivers.

However, competant drivers, know that it is not always appropriate, or safe, to drive to, at, or sometimes any where near, the speed limit, but to drive to a speed appropriate to the conditions.. Whether those conditions relate to weather, or other factors, such as junctions, side turnings or other traffic.
How does going lower than the speed limit cause accidents? Stupidest comment of the week.

Why penalise safe road users for the sake of a small minded minority who don’t abide by the rules, or risk other peoples lives by driving like neandertals behind the wheel. All roads are safe, it’s how they are used that is the issue
