A driver has been rushed to hospital after careering through a hedge, travelling around 250m across a field and into a tree near Brighstone.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were mobilised to Strawberry Lane at around 13:00 this afternoon (Monday) after receiving reports of a road traffic collision, in which a black Renault Clio had left the road.
Due to the reported severity of the situation, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) was scrambled to the West Wight, landing between the villages of Brighstone and Mottistone.
Island Echo believes the car at the center of this afternoon’s emergency response was exiting right out of the National Trust car park on Strawberry Lane – commonly used to access The Longstone – when the driver lost control.
Flying doctors – alongside an ambulance crew, critical care paramedic and an operational commander from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – have tended to the male driver, who has since been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Despite the initial trauma response, Police have confirmed that only minor injuries have been sustained.
The air ambulance has stood down and returned to base at Thruxton, near Andover.

Looks like another case of speeding, it’s about
time something was finally done to combat

20mph I do 20mph etc etc etc

Note my previous comments. Who will pay the costs involved in what we are told was a loss of control? Yep, that would be us taxpayers. Not that I relish agreeing with Enough is Enough, but it’s hard to see how the car could have been travelling at a sedated rate for it to have careered do far off road

That’s some loss of control, to travel 250m across a field, when they were just ‘exiting a car park’…
you’d have trouble doing that when (unintentionally) exiting the corner of a race track…
