The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to Brading this afternoon (Friday) where a pedestrian has been left injured in the road.
The incident occurred on New Road near the junction with The Mall at around 16:15 and has seen a pedestrian left in the road.
Due to the severity of the situation, the Air Ambulance has been scrambled from its Thruxton base, landing at the nearby playing fields.
Island Echo understands the pedestrian collided with an oncoming vehicle whilst attempting to cross the road.
Numerous resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have been called to the scene including the Operational Commander and Enhanced Care Paramedic.
Paramedics and flying doctors are currently tending to the injured person in the road.
The Mall is currently blocked from the New Road junction.
UPDATE @ 16:50 – The casualty – an 18-year-old woman from Ryde – has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.
Flying doctors have boarded the air ambulance and have headed back to base at Thruxton.

Trouble is now kids are not taught to respect the dangers of the roads ..instead they step out thinking it’s their right putting all the blame on the driver… PATHS are for pedestrians ROADS are for VEHICLES very simple…the people of today are THICK.
We saw on the news the excited kids in Manchester smashing up the town when their school closed for the Summer recess. Mind few were as British as a hyena born in a UK zoo is.
Hope they are okay.
Even when the lights are red at that pedestrian crossing, cars jump the lights coming from that junction and think it’s alright to do so.
Poor kid and on the last day of school for the summer holidays ..
Must be awful for the car driver as well.

This was going to happen!! Probably the same kid that has been running in front on the traffic for months. Thinking its funny!

We have had the police here for months trying to stop it happening. Also the vandalism they keep causing.
Yet the kids keep doing it!

When was excessive speed or a child mentioned why bother commenting if your not going to bother reading the article properly it says PEDESTRIAN not child and speed is not mentioned at all and that is as low be d can’t take it at speed if you wanted most likely the PEDESTRIAN walking across road without looking in which case not the driver’s fault instead of jumping on the driver’s as being at fault all the time and putting the responsibility for the safety of pedestrians on the shoulders of motorists make pedestrians take responsibility for their own damn safety and make them learn the green cross code as it used to be called and cross the road correctly and loose the arrogance
I was nearly hit by a vehicle at the same location, days before: A southbound car was making an illegal right turn from High Street into The Mall. In navigating that, I walked out in front of a second car. There are countless vehicles making this illegal move.
IDK what caused this awful accident yesterday but it happened before 4pm; there was very heavy traffic & emergency services seemed to take a long time.
I’ve wondered how clearly the Pedestrian Crossing lights are too, for drivers entering High Street from Mall because I’ve also seen cars cutting across a red, where several kids were grouped for crossing.
I think it’s time to ban fume-spewing SUV’s too: 2.5 tons of metal as a status symbol doesn’t help anyone hit.
Are you aware that a small electric car weighs approx 2 tons and produces the equivalent of 200bhp.so not much different from a fuel SUV.
Worse as almost silent so with windy conditions can’t be heard approaching.
The vehicle involved was a Mini. (I live a few houses away)

To those commenting that the article doesn’t mention vehicle speed or the age of the “pedestrian”, it’s been edited. The article when first published mentioned both theses facts. Why the age reference appears to have been removed I don’t know, but possibly stating the vehicle was going too fast without evidence would get the echo in legal troubles.
