The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed at Nine Acres Playing Field in the middle of Newport this morning (Friday).
After circling low over the town centre, the helicopter touched down at 07:48.
Onboard doctors and paramedics are now tending to a patient at Chestnut Court off nearby West Street.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has 1 crew and an operational commander in attendance.
It’s unusual for the air ambulance to land in Newport other than at the helipad, with patients normally conveyed the short distance to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
UPDATE @ 09:10 – Having taken off from Nine Acres and relocated to the helipad, the air ambulance is now standing down from the incident and returning to base at Thruxton.
