UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are working to evacuate a person from a flat in Ryde this afternoon (Monday).
Firefighters from the town were called to assist the ambulance service at just gone 11:30. It was swiftly decided – at 11:45 – that the assistance of the aerial ladder platform was required.
Crews are currently working to transfer the patient to the awaiting ambulance by means of evacuation through a top floor window and onto the aerial platform.
St Thomas’ Street has been closed in both directions.
UPDATE @ 12:40 – The incident has now been brought to a close following the safe and successful operation to lower the patient to ground level.
The individual is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
