‘-7.6C RECORDED IN SANDOWN OVERNIGHT AS COLD WEATHER CONTINUES TO BITE

A teeth-chattering -7.6c was recorded by IW Met Service in Sandown overnight as cold weather continues to grip the Isle of Wight. Further chilly temperatures were seen in Chale (-6.9c), Southwest Newport (-6.5c) and Ashey (-6.5), whilst near Island Harbour a slightly more ‘mild’ -6.1c was recorded. Although the above temperatures are very cold, it is still a long way warmer than the record low of -17c that was recorded by IW Met Service in Chillerton back in December 2010. Island Roads’ fleet of gritters have been busy so far this week treating roads across the Island and that doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon with more freezing temperatures expected tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday.
