A Ryde man has been disqualified from driving for 6 months and ordered to pay more than £780 after admitting to a series of motoring offences in Wootton.
Nicholas Richards, 54, of Elm Close in Oakfield, appeared before Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 24th July where he pleaded guilty to 3 separate charges relating to an incident on High Street, Wootton, on 5th December 2023 – some 18 months ago.
The court heard that Richards was driving a Skoda Octavia when he failed to comply with a red traffic light, drove without reasonable consideration for other road users and was found to be uninsured.
Magistrates took into account his guilty pleas when sentencing, issuing a 6-month driving disqualification and endorsing his record with 8 notional penalty points. He was fined £467 and ordered to pay £130 in costs along with a £187 victim surcharge.

Only a 6 month ban. I would give more than that just for
the red light incident, yet alone being uninsured.
These punishments are no worthy deterrent, it’s no
wonder motorists keep breaking the law.
What are “notional points”. He will have had his record endorsed with eight points – there is nothing notinal about them.
Points make prizes, he should have received more
points.
