25-year-old McCauley Silverthorne has been jailed after being found guilty of seriously injuring an innocent 4-week-old baby on the Isle of Wight, causing the child to sustain 29 fractures.
Silverthorne, of Trafalgar Road in Newport, was convicted of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm on 29th March this year, following a trial at Portsmouth Crown Court which began back in February.
The court heard that the baby was rushed to hospital on 13th March 2019 before doctors discovered the child had fractured ribs. Child services were notified who then went on to notify Police.
Medical examinations determined that the baby had suffered a shocking 29 fractures in total, with 4 of these relating to the legs and the remainder the ribs, in addition to serious head injuries.
Experts deemed these to be non-accidental injuries, and following a lengthy Police investigation, Silverthorne was charged on 15th June 2021. Just a week later Silverthorne appeared in court on unrelated matters where it was revealed he was a cannabis addict.
Now, just over 2 years later, Silverthorne has been sentenced to 5-and-a-half years in custody by His Honour Judge Ashworth. He was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court this morning (Friday).
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Liam Davies has said:
“This was a truly horrific case involving a very young and vulnerable baby. The catalogue of serious and shocking injuries inflicted, including those to the child’s head have led to a long term risk to their health.

“I would also like to highlight Detective Sergeant Dan Hayward as the Investigating Officer. It is only through his dedication and tenacity, alongside support from colleagues that we have been able to bring Silverthorne to justice for this awful crime.”
I’ll say it then…. Only 5 and a half years… shocking.
Maybe he will also receive 29 fractures whilst inside too! Just over 5 ‘accidents’ a year should do it…

Agree he’s a low life and should of got a much longer sentence,but smoking cannibis really doesn’t give him an excuse and smoking weed,unlike alcohol, does not make people angry and violent – quite opposite. But some are just naturally violent or aggressive anyhow, more so after alcohol – yet that’s legal.
