Police, firefighters and paramedics are in attendance at a road traffic collision involving a van and 2 cars in the village of Godshill this lunchtime (Thursday).
The incident has occurred in a 20mph zone near to the model village in the heart of the tourism hotspot and has seen a local WA Foods delivery van collide with a black Peugeot.
A red Toyota has also been damaged.
Fire appliances from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service – from Newport and Shanklin stations – are in attendance alongside a number of resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service including 2 ambulances, an enhanced care paramedic and an operational commander.
Police have closed the main road through Godshill in both directions with motorists having to divert locally via Arreton or Whitwell.
Southern Vectis say their Route 2 and 3 buses cannot serve Godshill at this time and will divert via Canteen Road and Arreton. Route 2 is not serving Merstone or Godshill and Route 3 will divert via Merstone in both directions.
UPDATE @ 13:38 – A number of casualties have been checked over by paramedics, including 1 male who has sustained a head injury.
Island Echo is told that the van and Peugeot collided before then shunting the red Toyota Aygo from a parking spot. The driver of the Aygo was in the vehicle at the time of impact.
Firefighters have assisted those involved but have not had to extricate anyone. A spillage has also been tended to.
Recovery of all 3 vehicles has been arranged but the road remains closed at this time, but is expected to reopen this afternoon.
UPDATE @ 14:45 – The road has now re-opened in both directions.
Southern Vectis buses are returning to a normal route.

How on earth can there be a collision with that amount of damage in a 20 mph limit. Someone should have their licence revoked to protect the rest of us from such poor drivng
…because the speed people drive through Godshill is insane. Plus mix in small or limited pavements and wondering tourists, it’s surprising it hasn’t happened before. If anywhere needs a sign displaying speeds, it’s here.
Its 20mph, a stupid speed limit, as speed has never been a contributing factor in any accidents in the area, a FACT that the police confirmed when £30k was spent changing the limit, going as far as to say they wouldn’t be enforcing the new limit. There are signs on the road and at the entrance of the 20mph zone at both ends, so don’t talk nonsense.
Yes there was and it’s because of school and pedestrians in road, rightly a 20mph.
Your an ignorant sick individual……
Now you’re just ejaculating nonsense; so these vehicles have been in a collision with this much damage going clearly above 20mph and you think it’s stupid, God help us because theres many like you who prefer to drive fast, its ludicrous for you to think asking for 20mph zones is somehow stupid no its smart, LIVES HAVE BEEN SAVED AS A RESULT OF ASKING STUPID DRIVERS LIKE YOU TO SLOW THE @#$% DOWN
It’s got to be an old driver in the black Peugeot that caused it, probably had a medical episode while wearing a pair of massive white gloves?
Nearly had a head-on with a similar black Peugeot SUV a few weeks ago. Came around a corner in Seaview on the wrong side of the road.
Driver was elderly.
Love the fact everyone assumes elderly driver ,,,,
News flash one day someone may say the same about you !!!!
If you are lucky enough to get
Being an older driver
!!!!!?????,.
Look further than the end of your nose …..
Good bad and crap in all age’s etc …..
They will never reach old age, they stuff crap food down their necks everyday, and are drugged up most of the day….At least the NHS won’t have to spend money on them for long…
Well seaview is terrible snobs are ignorant they don’t care about anyone but there selfs
More probably a white van driver with one hand on his phone and the other on his c o c k
The driver of the Peugeot was my mum who got took to hospital on a spine board! The van was on the wrong side of the road, he has already admitted he was in the wrong! Please think before making assumptions
Hope she is ok
Well said, I hope your mum gets the care she needs…
Mainland motorists, ‘irresponsible young drivers’ and ‘incapable old drivers’ are NOT the main cause of crashes on Isle of Wight roads, a senior police chief has said.
It follows 2021 data, published by the Isle of Wight’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP), which showed there were 242 road accidents involving injury on the Island.
Little John drug driving again
Because modern vehicles are designed to just crumple in collisions. It reduces harm to the drivers.
Looks like that black car has pulled out and been hit by the oncoming van.
They also have esp , abs and newer cars accident avoidance – this was more than 20mph collision!
Best read what the Black cars driver daughter has explained “THE VAN WAS AT FAULT IT WAS ADMITTED” In bold text as you obviously have trouble reading comments but none assuming!
It looks like the van driver hit the Peugeot and nocked the Peugeot sideways, bloody van drivers are idiots most of the time…Every day one of them drive so close to me trying to park in my boot, twenty miles per hour would not course that much front end damage….
Wow, lot of damage in a 20 zone!! Someone was speeding methinks
20 mph? Were they driving paper cars?
HaHa it can only be the island full of bad drunk or drug drivers. all you lot should have driving test every year
Who does 20mph in Godshill!?
Godshill is a very dangerous road, it needs to operate like Shalfleet
Traffic lights at one end and Traffic lights at the other end.
Godshill is very dangerous for pedestrians.
I would make both sides of the Road pedestrian friendly and it should be only wide
enough for 1 vehicle, hence Traffic lights like the ones in Shalfleet.
Come on IW Council make it happen.
