Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat spent more than 4 hours at sea aiding a yacht suffering from engine failure last night (Friday).
The Tamar-class lifeboat was launched at 18:50 in response to a request from Solent Coastguard to locate and assist a 26ft yacht with engine failure that was reported to be 27 miles south of Ventnor.
It was also reported that 2 crew were onboard, one of whom, the skipper, was unwell.
The yacht was duly located at around 19:40 somewhat closer than originally reported and as there was a 2-3m swell running, a tow line was quickly transferred to the yacht and she was towed into Bembridge Harbour.
Having put her safely alongside the visitors pontoon, the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ then returned to the Boathouse and was recovered by 23:45.
