24-year-old Laurence Marsden has been charged as part of an investigation into a sexual assault on an 18-year-old girl in Cowes and 2 indecent exposure incidents.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary launched an investigation at the end of June after an 18-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted on the cycle track between Cowes and Stag Lane.
Then, just 2 days later, a report was received of an indecent exposure incident on the Coastal Path near Marsh Street, Gurnard.
On 1st July, there was another alleged indecent exposure on the cycle track and Police revealed on 2nd July that they were looking into whether an incident at Northwood Cemetery on 12th June was in any way connected.
Investigations led to a 49-year-old man being arrested, with a 56-year-old man also arrested in connection with the investigation. Both have since been released.
Now, Laurence Marsden, of Bernard Road in Cowes, has been charged with 2 counts of indecent exposure and 1 count of sexual assault.
1 of the indecent exposure charges relates to the incident on Saturday 1st July. The other indecent exposure charge and the sexual assault charge relates to the incident on Monday 26th June on the cycle path.
No charges have been laid in respect of the alleged incidents at Gurnard and Northwood Cemetery.
It has been confirmed that Marsden was arrested on Sunday and has since been charged. He has been remanded in custody to hear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Tuesday).
UPDATED @ 19:30 – Following today’s hearing, Marsden was released on bail until 12th October.

I have no doubt the judges would LOVE to jail these and many other dregs away for a long time, but pressure from above informing them that the UK’s prisons are full, and a huge proportion of the inmates not of British decent, with more being added daily for even worse crimes, prevents that option.
See the real reason, imo it is not just ‘coincidence’ that since masse enrichment we can no longer have meaningful just sentences for the dregs of society, and have longer waits for hospital appointments, not enough dentist to cover the need, etc etc.

So what about compensation for the two men arrested?. They may of lost their jobs,their families, marriage etc. The police need to be more careful arresting inocent people just because they had a Jack Russell. If that had been me I would of been suicidal with fear .
And how do you establish innocence, or indeed guilt, without first finding and interviewing potential suspects? If you can just spontaneously determine who’s guilty and who’s not, just like that, then why do we even have police investigations at all?
Chances are, they were in and out before they knew it and were probably happy to help out the poor girl if they could. It’s not like they got remanded in Belmarsh and put on the front pages or something.
They still got arrested for something they didn’t do – police were wrong and this is worrying, that despite being wrong, these guys got arrested.
If you had been wrongly arrested under this sort of allegation you would know just the suspicion ruins you’re life,these two other men would of had conditions,phones, computers taken and if this latest alleged guy had not been arrested they would of remained under investigation until October. This guy arrested has only been charged and as we have seen in recent media around others could still be also found not guilty by jury in Court.
Puzzle though there is a big age difference between 24yrs and 50+yrs,why couldn’t victims see that?
They only pulled the other two in because they had a record of sexual offences.

We don’t know that, you might be spreading false info. Yes there’s hundreds of registered sex offenders on the Island,why not pull them all in under suspicion?. Now day’s you can become a sex offender for having porn, like many a teenager would of had under bed 30/40yrs ago in a top shelf mag.

Conservative Britain means this dangerous person will not get a prison sentence. Cuts to every single public service year on year, including everything judicial has left our country an easy touch for criminals like this. He probably evaluated a custodial sentence was unlikely before acting out his depraved ideas. If there is little fear of consequences, expect more of this sort of thing. At least his name is now known, assuming he is actually guilty, he’ll find it difficult to repeat this pattern of offending without being noticed quickly. Let’s hope he is jailed, and doesn’t go on to hurt someone.
Why are there so many perverts on the island, starting at such a young age as well. There seems to be no punishment and no deterrent, It’s awful.
