Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has launched a witness appeal following an alleged sexual assault and indecent exposure incident on separate days in the North Wight this week.
The sexual assault was reported to police on the afternoon of 28th June, but is reported to have taken place the previous evening.
Police were told that at around 19:00 on Tuesday 27th June an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted on the cycle track between Cowes and Stag Lane by a man not known to her. After the assault, the man exposed himself and the woman ran off.
The man was described as white and accompanied by a black and white Jack Russell dog.
Since this was reported to us, officers have been conducting a number of enquiries to identify this man and have been scoping for CCTV footage and patrolling the cycle track.
Yesterday afternoon (Thursday 29th June) we received a report of an indecent exposure on the coastal path near Marsh Street, Gurnard, at around 16:30. The person responsible was again described as a white man accompanied by a Jack Russell.
Inspector Matt Gooding said:
“These are shocking incidents which have been understandably distressing for the people involved.
Article continues below this advertisement “We are investigating these incidents as a priority and have had officers actively patrolling the areas, in addition to following up urgent enquiries to identify the man responsible.
“Both of these incidents took place during daylight hours. We believe other members of the public, including cyclists, would have been using the cycle track on the evening of 28 June, and equally other people may have seen a man with a Jack Russell on the Gurnard coastal path on 29th June.
“Were you in these areas around the time these offences occurred? Have you seen a man matching this person’s description?
“Our investigation continues, and we are keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone with information.”

It doesn’t give any description of dog just says it’s a Jack Russell, does say man was white. Police will have info and should share,as now every guy young or old with Jack Russell will be under suspicion. In Cowes at moment and seen 3x type – but I’m not jumping to conclusions – story could even be fake news. We all need to be cautious now days.

As I have already said… you owe it to the victims and any further victims to report your findings about this individual to the Police, not to boast about your insider information on these pages. Even if he is a family member you must report the man, he is fast becoming a danger to others.

I really think we need more of a description than a white man with a Jack Russell? I saw a white man with a Jack Russell walking along arctic road towards the cycle track earlier today but there’s nothing I can do unless I have more detail? Tall? Short? Fat? Thin? Old? Young?
Yes it’s really inconsiderate of the victims for not giving better descriptions of the man.

Not sure if this is down to the police’s incompetence or the alleged victim not offering a description, but this is just silly. They’ve given more of a description of the dog than the man.
