23-YEAR-OLD FROM NEWPORT CHARGED OVER COWES STABBING

UPDATED: 23-year-old Macauley Watterston of Laundry Lane, Newport has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent following the stabbing of a teenager in Cowes during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called at around 00:30 on Tuesday morning after an 18-year-old man sustained 2 stab wounds to the back in the area around Love Lane and Windmill Close. He remains in hospital at this time.

Detectives investigating the incident have charged Macauley Watterston with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been remanded to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (27th July).

A 23 year-old man from Carisbrooke has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent but has been released from custody without charge. He remains under investigation.

A 23 year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of cannabis. He has been released from custody without charge, but remains under investigation.

A third 23 year-old man of no fixed address has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been released from custody without charge, but remains under investigation.

UPDATE FRIDAY – Macauley Watterston appeared before Magistrates this morning, where he denied stabbing 18-year-old Travis Whittington.

Watterston will now appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 3rd September.
