A capsized motor vessel off The Needles saw Freshwater Lifeboat’s training session turn into a real shout yesterday (Sunday).
Solent Coastguard tasked the independent lifeboat and her volunteer crews to reports of a 19ft motor vessel in trouble approximately half a mile west of The Needles.
Needles Coastwatch Station heard reports of the capsizing and quickly established a visual on the upturned boat.
With 2 casualties in the water, Freshwater Lifeboat proceeded at best speed and was on scene within just minutes.
It soon became clear that 1 casualty had already been recovered from the water by a local fishing vessel. The other casualty was recovered onto the lifeboat.
Both casualties were transferred to Yarmouth Harbour where Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting to complete casualty care checks on both individuals.
The capsized vessel was later recovered to Yarmouth Harbour.

The vessel was towed back to Yarmouth by Black Rock Charters. These men were very lucky indeed that there was help at hand.

I was in difficulty at the needles in a 17ft open top speedboat. It’s not a nice place to be in 9ft waves GF7. Impossible to make headway with the waves pushing you onto the cliffs and freefalling.with a loud cracking sound. I was possibly 80ft off the clifff-face so Rode the virtical and balanced atop the crest then hit the throttle for as long as possible then drop and repeat. Big stress. Well done RNLI

I am so very gratefull for the fast response from local charter vessels who were on scene so fast and to the RNLI and Coastguard crew’s who attended to save myself and my friend. Where we were capsized from two rolling breakers on Sunday morning. Having many years of experiance at sea and assisting in a couple of recoveries myself i never thought it would be myself on the wrong side of Neptunes Wrath. i am just so so pleased to have come out from what was my most scary and daunting experiance and blessed that Angels were looking down on us both to return us safely to our family friends and most of all our partners, the last thing i have to say is no matter what or how long experiance you have never take safety at sea for granted.
