2 men from the Isle of Wight are due to appear in court charged with breaching the COVID-19 legislation in place to protect the local community.
Police have been working to reassure, educate and, where necessary, enforce the Government’s restrictions during this time of crisis. Now, legal action is being taken against those who persistently flout the law.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that 2 individuals have been summonsed to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court for breaching the restrictions in the Ryde area.
31-year-old Kieron Miles, or no fixed abode, has been charged with breaching COVID-19 legislation and begging.
23-year-old Scott Thick, of Green Street in Ryde, has also been charged with breaching COVID-19 legislation, as well as offences under the Public Order Act.
Both men had been warned several times.

Sounds like they are both a waste of space…
Rum fellows and that’s a fact.
Ryde are you surprised
May I ask where you are
Old Bean probably lives on the main land . But if they would care to post their address ???
We’re not all like that in ryde!
What’s wrong with Ryde you prick?
We are not all like that in Ryde, but sadly, many are, so I’m not surprised to read that the offenders are in Ryde. The one called Thick, (appropriate surname!) is listed as residing in Green Street. Would that be the Salvation Army hostel in Green Street I wonder? that has caused so many problems for local residents?
Ryde is a drug hub, would never live there
The whole Island is a drug hub John. Police only raided a cocaine dealer’s house in Bembridge last month if you saw. Cowes Week is awash with drugs
So is Newport. Sandown. Cowes east Cowes freshwater Yarmouth chale wroxall umm all the island dam why can’t you people stop taring areas with the same brush.
Not the only place like that over here by a long chalk.
The Island is treated as a bit of a joke by many people on the mainland, it’s just thought of as a cesspit full of scummy types who are all a bit thick and ignorant.
I was born here and it seems to get worse over the years, but some of the worst types of people here were not born on the Island, a great many of them have come to live here from elsewhere.
Thick? The mind boggles.
Lock them up throw away the key! Naughty boys!!
You report they had been warned several times. We have got to toughen up, on the first instance there should be a warning but on the second instance that’s time for action. My goodness we are too nicely nicely don’t want to offend but no, these people are putting others at risk so stop them!!!
Feeling very concerned. A lot more traffic going through shorwell over the last few days. Are people breaking the lockdown? The weather is So lovely and whilst I understand people are getting fed up staying home and want to go out in it this virus is killing people.
Same in shanklin
Once again I ask that there is more police presence in Shanklin where traffic is almost back to normal and the younger generation racing around on their motorcycles as I saw yesterday – not essential travel. We who are following government instructions are being punished with the lockdown whilst these ‘don’t care’ minority are not helping to exit the house arrest
Even assuming the people you saw weren’t travelling to a shop or for essential work purposes, the latest guidelines say quite clearly “you can drive to exercise”.
They do not say “you may not leave your home under any circumstances” and never have.
Be under no illusion, this is not just a case of staying home for a couple of weeks – it will be months, probably years, before the restrictions are removed. The Government’s own health advisor made that clear last week and the refusal to even talk about an exit strategy confirms it.
The implications of that for mental and physical wellbeing of staying inside that long are beyond belief.
There was a quote from Germany this morning it said quite simply “Do not try to ban life”
They aren’t hurting anyone whilst they are in their car.
Joe bloggs, you just don’t get it, if you drive around for no URGENT reason you are still liable for a breakdown, involving somebody to come to your assistance, involved in an accident which could necessitate NHS resources, for both drivers, riders, pedestrians. If the police are required and you need to report an incident no. to your insurance company whilst, ‘swanning about’ good luck with that.
The traffic in Shanklin is almost back to normal. Yesterday there were three people on motrcycles racing past our property in a GROUP and they could be heard for sometime revving their engines. What is essential about this and yet they are talking about lifting restrictions on these younger people first. Stupid idea when more mature people have followed the rules – we should be rewarded and lt them take the punishment. I understand that the police cannot be everywhere but they need to have a bigger presence in Shanklin
Same here in Apse Heath. And pretty much all vehicles (including Island Roads vans) are seemingly exceeding the speed limit making my 30 minute walk exercise a lottery
Oh the irony of Scott’s last name…
By name and nature……
Definitely thick….
Lock em up! Wasters
Thick my name thick by nature
Clearly a family member here. Can’t you spell?
Lock em up. That’ll keep them isolated
You can’t stop stupid and you can’t quarantine it either !!!!!!! However I do feel this pair of tit heads are beyond help, always see them when I finish work, waste of space. Not just in Ryde OLD BEAN, they move around, so could be coming to a street near you
I get my exercise by walking down to the shops, after I walk down to the front, Ryde, then walk home. Have seen more people out and about today than last weeks walk. There was quite a lot of cars and motorcycles out too… One car had BLUE ring lights on front of his car on, as the driver drove around Ryde..,. surely blue lights in front is not legal ! Or has the Highway Code changed ?
I was passed by a van with blue lights fitted to the roof travelling in excess of the speed limit along culver parade this morning whilst I was taking my daily exercise.
The lights weren’t on but the two tone paint job and the word “Police” on the side made it memorable nontheless.
And I thought they were supposed to set an example for the rest of us,
Thick by name and…….. well need I say more
They won’t lock up these pair of Dirt bags however they will be back out begging again as the system is a complete failure.
Make an example of these 2 idiots. Give them a prison sentence. Hopefully it will deter other idiots from doing the same thing.
“Lock em up!” is all very well, but I bet a lot of folk saying we should get tough have also voted Tory.
Which means 20K fewer police, and a prison service budget that’s effectively 25% lower than a decade ago as well.
Who’s “Thick” now?
Of no fixed abode? I thought homeless people were meant to be off the street.
Lock them up
Is this the end of democracy?
Ryde/Sandown both full of dregs brought over from the mainland. These areas are so deprived and run down
they need some form of financial stimulation. At the moment it is not a place anybody would move to.
And the chorus goes…
“Don’t blame it on the council, don’t blame it on the police, don’t blame it on the dealers…”
Blame it on the mainland!
Mr miles ? Taken weeks to fine him he was in the flat above me last Saturday night drunk with his sidekicks ! Guy in flat above is allowed no one in ? Phone to report it nothing . They have been running riot round ryde for months . Putting us all in danger he was given a place in sandown . After living in church doorway .
Quick everyone, grab your pitch forks and join in with the angry mob!
I’m sure this Island has more keyboard warriors than anywhere else in the world
IOWer, yes, Heaven forbid anyone should dare to complain about trash, Just invite them into your home and take care of them, and then tell us how that went.
IOWer – Seeing as we can’t go out, keyboard warriors is all we can be right now. It’s not 1977 anymore so we cannot go out and fight for things we believe in. We fought Thatcher, we fought unfairness back then. Maybe if we had less snowflakes around things might change. seeing as both “men” and I use that term loosely, have had warning before, if you don’t listen the 1st time then you should be locked up, and not fined. As fines very rarely get collected.
Betsy guy upstairs who entertains half of Salvation Army from green street my partner is very ill has not been out yet my nice upstairs likes to entertain these people mr miles and his girlfriend barred from our building ? Guy upstairs takes dog out ! Fine but then gives dog to friend meets him outside so in and out all day ! We have two young children here ! Police turn blind eye putting us all in danger ?
