Emergency services have been called to a collision involving 2 vehicles on a crossroad junction in Newport this afternoon (Sunday).
The crash has occurred on St James’ Street at the junction with Lugley Street – a junction known for the number of collisions that occur there.
No one is thought to have been seriously injured but paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance and are checking over those involved.
The road has been closed in both directions with Southern Vectis Route 1 buses diverting locally.
UPDATE – The road has now reopened in both directions.
1 person sustained a minor injury, it has been confirmed.
Unfortunately no one really stops to check if someone else is coming up the road !!!!!
And IWC give planning permission for a building on corner that could of been built back another 18″ and visibility would be better. Cyclists/motorcyclist most at risk coming down St James if keeping to left.
I literally just said the same thing to my wife, why they built that building I’ll never know, u can probably expect more accidents on that crossroad in future

Not exactly a difficult or dangerous junction… Used it myself at least 3 times on Saturday…
The secret is, not to pull out if another car is coming!

You should be grateful people bother to come into Newport, it was River Fest weekend – nice to know your are interested in what goes on in your area!
