An 18-year-old man from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of arson after an attempted attack on a van in East Cowes last night (Friday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, a single fire crew from East Cowes were mobilised to York Avenue at around 19:45 after they received reports of a fire under yet another van.
On this occasion, firefighters arrived to discover that the fire had been extinguished – or had self extinguished – before it could take hold of the ADT Ford Transit.
It was believed that the fire was started to nearside front of the van – a similar modus operandi to the fires that were committed in the town in December and January.
At this moment there is no link to the earlier crimes but this is the first arrest that has been made in relation to the increase in arson related behaviour in the town.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that an 18-year-old from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of arson and possession of cocaine.
He remains in custody at this time.

Perhaps not if they manage to get him for teh other arson episodes. Tricky one…either way, his card is marked, but one would have thought it more likely to be a local, not someone from Sandown. Watch this space as they say…

Such a shame that the low life never combusted instead of the vehicle(s). Perhaps if found guilty and after paying it’s fine from benefits, one of the owners of fire damaged vehicles could arrange a meet-up.
For one thing is certain, that ‘justice’ which this type understand, WON’T be given by any court now that our prisons are filled to the max with the worlds imported low life as well as some of our own.

Who says no evidence ? In the area carrying an empty petrol can might be considered ‘evidence’. Who knows why this particular person got arrested ‘on suspicion’ ?

Wouldn’t it be nice if the keyboard warriors left it to the police to establish all the facts before commenting? There are a number of other possibilities such as that this last (and failed) attempt has been a copycat action, while the culprit responsible for the previous fires is still at large.

18 year old that lives in Sandown, why is he targeting E Cowes. This really doesn’t make sense. Still need to be vigilante as I reckon the perpetrator is local to E Cowes area. The timings are getting weird some were early hours this one is around 7pm. Anyone checked the more “let’s cause trouble” social media links?
