A 1-man protest, in which a man is sitting on the floor in the middle of a busy road in Ryde, is causing traffic delays this evening (Sunday).
The incident has occurred on Lind Street in the town which is currently blocked by a man sitting cross-legged with cones either side of him in the middle of the carriageway.
The cones have been taken from outside of the nearby Ryde Theatre.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have closed the road at its junction with West Street.
Island Echo understands that the individuals protests were brought on after a dispute with the authorities about his dog.
During ordeal, it is alleged that the male threw some objects at the Ryde Town Council building smashing the windows in several places.
Southern Vectis route 4 and 9 buses are unable to serve the usual route and are diverting locally.
The person responsible is currently being spoken to by Police officers.
UPDATE. @ 19:20 – The road has now reopened again.

Mental illness needs treating like any other condition. one day it could be you. People with mental illness can be a danger to others as well as themselves. Do you believe physically ill people should not be treated? after all that costs a lot of money as well.

Because we USED to have asylums, Now we just have ‘care in the community which is far more costly as all have to have their rent paid and council tax, all have to have funding for individual meters for gas, water, elec, which normal people have to fund via ‘adult social care’ on our c.tax.
And then they need individual care workers and doctors.
When locked up in Asylums a few professionals could treat hundreds of these simple costly beings, AND they weren’t ruining the lives of normal people
Bring back asylums, cheaper, and made the streets safer and less hassle for Police and more homes for those who DO pay their way in life.

Only recently and because of laws, do people have to accept joeys into eating places, schools etc.
The latter gaining funding so of course the head is all beaming at the thought of extra needed funding for the school, but the poor teacher is dreading having to try to get through a day with a joey disrupting the normal students in their class.
