Police have sealed off a field in Shanklin following the discovery of a body underneath a tree this evening (Sunday).
A number of officers are currently on scene off Blythe Way and Silver Trees after they were alerted to the find by members of the public sometime before 19:00.
The field backs onto a residential estate on the fringes of Shanklin town.
The death is not thought to be suspicious but investigations are underway at this time. It’s thought the individual has been in situ for a period of time.
UPDATE MONDAY @ 10:28 – Police have confirmed that the discovery is that of a man’s body.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“At around 6.40pm on Sunday, July 7, the body of a man was found on an area of land behind houses in Silver Trees, Shanklin.
“At this stage the death is not being treated as a suspicious.
“A file is being prepared for the coroner”.
UPDATE MONDAY @ 14:00 – The body has now been removed from the scene.
Specialist Officers from the mainland were brought in today to assist with the recovery.
It has been confirmed by Police that the body is not that of a man who went missing in the area over 3 years ago.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – The deceased male has been locally named as Isle of Wight man Daniel Dean, who was reported missing in June.

May they R.i.p.

The photograph shows a van, which the story might imply is a police vehicle, used for carrying the poor man’s body.
Is it only me who thinks that there are occupied dog cages above the huge drawer under the floor?

I would be very interested to know just what the picture is portraying, because I want my theory to be wrong.
The vehicle shown is a specialist vehicle normally used by the POLSA (Police Search Advisor). The draw contains bits and pieces such as bags, tools etc.
Apologies if this is not clear.
RIP Dan, forever in my heart xxx
