The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed in Ryde this afternoon (Friday) for a medical emergency in the town.
The green and yellow helicopter was originally seen tracking towards Ryde at around 15:40 before diverting to St Mary’s Hospital helipad.
Around 45 minutes later, the helicopter took off from St Mary’s Hospital but instead of returning to the mainland, headed towards Ryde for what is understood to be a separate emergency.
The air ambulance and its crew have landed at Simeon Street Recreation Ground.
A member of the public has conveyed the flying doctors to an address in Quarry Road where 2 ambulances from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are already on scene.
The local crews arrived on scene at around 16:23.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that the incident involved a patient in cardiac arrest.
They were not conveyed by helicopter.
It has also been confirmed that the first incident, to which the air ambulance was originally tasked to, was also a cardiac arrest.
HIOWAA has since departed the Island, returning to the mainland.
Hope they save the unfortunate persons. We are lucky to have this service here.
Let’s hope once the council cover Ryde in bricks there will be few places left for it to still land.
