The Isle of Wight Zoo has tonight (Monday) announced the sad death of Tequila, the zoo’s only Jaguar.
Tequila has been a resident in Sandown since 1999 but the decision was taken earlier today to put the beautifully spotted animal to sleep as a result of a losing battle with cancer.
At 19-years-old Tequila has been undergoing care for suspected myeloma – a cancer of the blood.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Zoo has said:
“We did everything we could for her but took the decision today to say goodbye as we were not winning her battle.
“She wore her spots proudly and was adored by so many. We’re proud to have been her friend”.
