Emergency gas works at Yarbridge Cross are progressing well, meaning 3 of the 4 approaches will be re-opened this evening (Wednesday).
Docklands Traffic Management (DTM) tweeted to say that from approximately 19:30 Yarbridge Cross will be open to traffic under 3-way temporary traffic lights.
The complex repair of a large gas main that runs through the centre of Yarbridge Cross forced the closure of the busy junction on Monday night.
However, with the works that have been carried out by SGN, it is now safe to allow traffic to once again travel past the works from 3 approaches.
The Brading Downs Road approach will remain closed.
DTM tweeted saying:
“75% of Yarbridge Cross should be reopened by 7.30pm under 3 way signals, however Hornsey Rise (Bully’s Hill lower part) will remain closed.”
This will be a sigh of relief for many motorists who will be able to use New Road, Marshcombe Shute and Morton Road once again to travel between Sandown and Ryde.
Motorists wishing to travel between Brading Down Road and Yarbridge will still have to divert locally.
UPDATE @ 19:22 – DTM has now tweeted to say that the 3 approaches have now reopened to motorists.
UPDATE @ 19:29 – Southern Vectis have said route 2 & 3 buses will resume normal routes in this area.

You can easily slip through Morton Manor Road and Morton Old Road to slip past the roadworks fyi
Morton manor is 1 way, and when coming from Ryde the mall is no right turn, so no you can’t.
There’s a number of other routes, just follow the diversion signs
With NO cameras, and few Police, people seem to do as they wish now on our roads. Wait until R y d e increases in size, the fall out from such will impact much of the Island traffic issues.
