A woman who was arrested at gunpoint after she was seen waving a BB gun around on a busy roundabout in Newport has been released pending further investigation.
As first reported by Island Echo, armed police approached a 35-year-old woman sitting on the grass on Coppins Bridge roundabout in Newport shortly after 16:20 on Wednesday afternoon.
She was arrested after there were reports made that she was waving a firearm around in the air.
Upon arrest, officers discovered it was in fact a BB gun in her possession.
The gun, ammunition and a lock knife were seized as a result of the arrest.
The 35-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear – but has since been released under investigation.

Either she was, or she wasn’t. What’s to investigate????
Mental health. What made her do it etc
Section it.
It’s obviously mentally challenged.
Clearly either mental, or evil, either way matters not, as the answer is to lock it away for a few years to get it’s thinking right.
And that’s a crime is it ?
DON’T CALL HER ” IT ” !!!!!
There for the grace of God go I.
God doesn’t exist.
You are as bad as it.
This is a disgusting comment, you are a vile person. Your parents must be so proud of you.
Just telling the truth and the majority of normal people who don’t use “oh it’s me mental health ” as a excuse, will agree with me.
People with mental health issues are still human, labelling her as “it” doesn’t make you come across as a very pleasant person at all.
Life experiences tell a different story.
Section now so she gets the treatment needed.
This is classic escalation, next time she might stab someone.
Yes, hopefully YOU…..lol.
So your life experiences of mental health tell you a different story that people with mental health issues are not human?
I don’t think people use their mental health problems as an excuse, and heaven knows I’m sure people don’t ask for mental health issues, I think the last thing needed is people being labelled “it” because they are ill.
I’m sure that this lady is getting the help she needs, there will be a lot of this case that is unknown, yes it’s says she’s been released pending further investigation and people have assumed that she’s back on the streets with no help, being released doesn’t necessarily mean she’s back at home and suffering or causing the public distress or harm, she may well have been released into the care of the NHS.
Probably not as mentally challenged as you appear to be
No wonder confidence in police is not good, she was witnessed, had in her possession, CCTV on that crossing. What’s to investigate ?. Take up time maybe so as not to look at other crimes !.
A gun and a knife? Yet she’s released. Mm! Not sure a man doing that would be released so quickly?
Sounds like this woman needs help. A BB gun and a knife……… Nutter!
NO, it is the innocent public who need ‘help’ in the form of protection from these either vile, or mental beings.
The poor little innocent nine year old shot dead surely is proof of that, should you be so naive to need such.
You can’t often ‘help’ evil or mental, BUT you can protect the innocent by locking such away.
She was released in her still polluted state.
This is what I don’t understand these days – a person is arrested because they were brandishing a gun and a lock knife in a public place and yet they are released to go back out amongst the public?
Where is the sense or logic in that?
This person obviously has issues, maybe mental I don’t know. What I do know is that someone who walks around in a public space with a gun and a knife shouldn’t be released to potentially do exactly the same thing again. They either need time in the cells to calm down or time in a secure unit with a doctor to see if they can be helped with their problems.
More summer madness! I’m surprised the Police didn’t shoot on sight after all, who can forget the case of the visually impaired guy shot dead by armed officer’s for carrying a white stick. Deport her to Rwanda along with the rest of immigrant nut-jobs!!
“The 35-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear”
So was she also charged with being in possession of the lock knife?
“Lock” knifes are illegal to sell or own in this country regardless of blade length so would have probably been bought into the country with the full knowledge it is illegal.
That in itself could arguably be grounds for an even tougher sentence than the BB gun.
Whichever way you look at it she is either mentally ill or mentally challenged.
Act like a thug you deserve to get treated as one should.
But now our jails resemble the United nations, and we can never again jail anything of our own for any meaningful length of time unless they are far worse than they. And trust me, that is not easy to achieve.
Need to deport all non British criminals as soon as they are released whether family here or not, a free one way ticket could be issued to the family should they wish to join the ex con, and it would save us billions a year and make our country so very much nicer.
