Armed police have arrested a woman at gunpoint in the middle of the Isle of Wight’s busiest roundabout this afternoon (Wednesday).
Shortly before 16:20, 2 armed response vehicles were spotted on Pyle Street in Newport ready to make a move on a target suspect.
Now, a female has been detained at gunpoint on the pedestrian walkway on Coppins Bridge.
The arrest had taken place at one of the busiest times of the day with thousands of motorist driving past, witnessing the events unfold.
The female has been arrested and taken across the road into custody at Newport police station.
UPDATE @ 17:54 – It has been confirmed that a 35-year-old woman has been arrested after reports were received of a person waving a firearm around on Coppins Bridge.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that an unloaded BB gun, ammunition and a lock knife have been recovered following the arrest.
The 35-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear.
She remains in custody at this time.

I know my spelling is not good, at the age of eight I had a fractured skull and lost my memory. I didn’t know who my family were and spent six months in hospital, and to this day I remember nothing before the age of eight.
Under the circumstances I feel I have done well in life, I have never claimed benefits and have always worked hard. I own my house since paying off my mortgage four years ago, and I’m self-employed.
