WOMAN ON CLIFF PROMPTS COASTGUARD RESPONSE TO THE WEST WIGHT

UPDATED: Officers from HM Coastguard have been tasked to a developing incident on Tennyson Down in the West Wight this afternoon (Sunday). 

Coastguard Rescue Teams from The Needles and Ventnor have been mobilised to a female in distress on cliffs near to the Needles.

The RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat from Yarmouth has been also sent to the incident and they are currently standing off close to Scratchell’s Bay. They were tasked at 12:17.

UPDATE @ 16:16: It has been confirmed that the woman was spotted by watchkeepers at The Needles NCI Station at 11:40 this morning.

Immediate assistance was given and Coastguard teams alerted.

The woman has now been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

The incident has been brought to a close.
