WOMAN IN HER 80s RESCUED FROM FORT BY BEMBRIDGE LIFEBOAT

Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) rushed to the aid of an elderly Isle of Wight woman on No Man’s Fort in the Solent earlier this evening (Thursday).

Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the Tamar-class lifeboat at around 16:40 following reports that a woman had sustained possible head and neck injuries following a fall on the remote Palmerston fort.

Volunteer crew members mustered and swiftly launched the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ before motoring the short distance to the scene, just north of Seaview.

Following an assessment of the casualty, the decision was taken to  transfer her to the lifeboat via stretcher for onward conveyance to Bembridge Lifeboat Station. 4 crew members carefully carried the stretcher onto the ALB.

It’s back at the home station that Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team helped to transfer the woman down the pier to the awaiting Isle of Wight ambulance.

Alfred Albert Williams was rehoused and washed down by 18:00.
