After the announcement this afternoon (Thursday) that saw Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirm his resignation as the leader of the Conservative party, Island MP Bob Seely has given his thoughts on the matter.
Having previously backed the party leader, Seely went back on that earlier in the week – as reported by Island Echo – stating that he thought the Prime Minister was becoming a ‘distraction to governing Britain’.
After Boris’ statement outside Downing Street was made, Bob Seely, Island MP, said:
“I believe Boris has made the right decision to step aside. Despite his past strengths, he is becoming a distraction to governing Britain. I am concerned that important debates and important issues – on the Island and nationally – are being drowned out by the incessant noise from Downing Street.
“I thank Boris for his service, he’s had some big wins – and I’m sorry it has ended this way – but I believe his resignation today is the right decision for the Conservative Party and the right decision for our country.
“I believe Boris should go now and make way for others to come forward. We need to move swiftly on. We need a new leader who has the trust and respect of his or her colleagues – and a renewed sense of purpose – to govern us through a pivotal stage in our country’s history and meet the nation’s challenges.
“We need to regroup, rebuild and get on with delivering for the people we represent.
“I will continue to deliver for the Island as I have done for the past five years. We’ve seen over £100 million of funding secured during that time which includes upgrades to our hospital, our railway and our college and we’ve seen the future of shipbuilding in East Cowes secured through our successful levelling up bid.
“In addition, we are now part of an Islands Forum that will give UK islands a collective voice in Westminster. The government has accepted, in principle, our case for additional funding for the Isle of Wight Council and we have already seen some funds committed. I will be talking to the council about the next steps for securing an uplift through the Fair Funding Review.
“I look forward to working with a revitalised ministerial team who can help me to continue to deliver improvements for the Island.”

“I will continue to deliver for the Island as I have done for the past five years.” Says Bob, when, where and how? Upgrade to the hospital, what by moving more services to the mainland !!!!, Shipbuilding in East Cowes. Come on, this is all hogwash, time for you to go now Bob.
You can always rely on Bob to be a slippery sausage
Deluded much? Just pack your bags and leave…
Bob Seely must take 100% of the credit for getting rid of Johnson.
Bob Seely – the saviour of the free world.
Bob Seely – the man who makes the impossible possible.
Bob Seely for PM.
I’m off to take my medication to return me to the real world ….
One down, one to go. Bye, Bob.
You’ve got some brassneck to claim a win for the hospital.
The health and social care services over here have been at breaking point for some time. You say nothing, and do nothing about it. Just trot out the same spiel about ship-building in East Cowes. Please go.
“I will continue to deliver for the Island as I have done for the past five years.”
So delivering absolutely nothing, then, as that’s all he’s actually delivered since he’s been our MP.
Well done Bob ,, your judgement spot on again, now do the right thing and follow Boris out the door. Anything is better than what we have tolerated so far from you.
General Jack would not be impressed with your bull bob
I was worried when Boris resigned as we would have no one to laugh at, seems Bob has stepped up.
Deliver for the Island??? he is as deluded as the out going Billy Bunter!
What you need is to elect a leader who has conviction and integrity which you will be hard pressed to do most politicians have no real conviction its just a career as well you know with a big dose off ego
Unlikely to find anyone fitting that bill in the conservative party.
At least not one the well off pensioners who form the rump of active Tory members will vote for.
All politicians are the same, whether Tory, Labour, Liberal Democrat, Green, they are all liars who will only do what is good for them, not what is good for the country.
It’s time for Bob to go
Bob H Sausage offers us nothing as an MP. He is only interested in getting cheap publicity at someone else’s expense at the minimum of effort for himself. He has offered almost unconditional support for a consistent liar. About time he also did the decent thing and stepped down!
You’ve just blown away the only viable leader that could have, eventually, sorted the mess out.
Supporting the lame donkey yesterday, now looking for ‘a new direction’ today as if this is some kind of explanation for his voting for Boris to remain in power. He enabled that clown to stay in power in the first place! Shame on you half a sausage! Remove yourself from office.
What we need to do is vote Labour
Switched parties Nigel?
The hypocrisy should be shocking, but sadly it isn’t.Another MP who has backed Johnson through every disgraceful event to suddenly see the light when the stink of defeat has become too strong. Shame on you.
Bob Seeley = Irrelevant.
Maybe just for once try and help UK citizens. Rather than a proxy war and housing the world, here.
Bob would make a good pm, I wish he could or would run for prime minister.
Such a lovely man, always happy to help, or just chat.
He has done so much for the island, only the low life moan about him.
If they took the time to get to know Bob, they would see what a fantastic job he has done.
Guess you can’t educate all the sheep that bleet on here.
Same old moaners every time, uneducated low life.
Nothing better to do than sit and bleet.
Got a string of qualifications matey thank you very much !
All very well saying if folk took the time to meet him – seeing him would help, but exactly high profile is he!
Ferry goes both ways- time Bob a job got a one way ticket out of here .. ta ta and thanks gif nothing.
