Mobile and tablet users can now find out details about the forthcoming Isle of Wight Walking Festival using their devices.
The popular event, which is the UK’s largest walking festival and is organised by the Isle of Wight Council, has re-launched its website to enable it to be displayed on handheld devices. The previous website had been running for several years and was not optimised to display correctly on modern mobiles or tablets such as iPads.
Now in its 17th year, the Walking Festival takes place between 2 – 17 May and features over 250 walks. New walks include the workplace walking challenge and Warrior the War Horse trail while popular favourites such as the famous speed dating walk, the round the Island walk and walking with alpacas all make a return.
Councillor Shirley Smart, Executive member for economy and tourism, said:
“The old website needed to be updated to meet modern demand as most people have internet-enabled mobiles or they may have personal tablets.
“The newly designed site caters for this while still looking great on computers and gives clear, easy to understand information on all the walks such as cost, difficulty and duration etc.”
The website can be viewed at www.isleofwightwalkingfestival.co.uk where details of all walks can be found, as well as links to competitions, latest news and travel tips. Competition prizes include holidays, new pairs of walking boots and a walking kit.
The event also runs its own Facebook and Twitter pages at www.facebook.com/isleofwightwalkingfestival and www.twitter.com/iwwalkingfest.
