UPDATED: A 13m yacht with an unwell crew member on board has been escorted into Bembridge Harbour by Freshwater Independent Lifeboat this morning (Monday).
At around 06:30 the sailing vessel was situated off the coast of the Isle of Wight near Brook and by 07:55 bad called upon the assistance of Solent Coastguard, resulting in the launch of Freshwater Independent Lifeboat.
In what is a rather unusual situation, the lifeboat has escorted the casualty vessel right around the East side of the Island and into Bembridge Harbour.
Coastguard Officers from Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team have rendezvoused with the lifeboat crew and casualty vessel at the Harbour office pontoon.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has been called to attend the incident, but are yet to arrive on scene.
UPDATE @ 12:30 – Paramedics are now on scene and are to convey the sailor to St Mary’s Hospital.
