An unprepared sailor who broke down whilst 6 miles out to sea has been rescued by Yarmouth RNLI overnight.
Shortly before midnight last night (Wednesday) Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Yarmouth’s All Weather Lifeboat to locate a lone sailor to the South of The Needles.
The volunteer lifeboat crewman were making good speed towards the area shortly after midnight and soon located the lost skipper and vessel some 2 miles off the coast.
A tow was established and the boat was taken to the safety of Yarmouth Harbour.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at 01:28 this morning to rendezvous with the broken down boat to issue safety advice to its skipper.
The incident was brought to a close by 02:30.
