A 27-year-old man from East Cowes, who denies causing the death of an 81-year-old woman in Newport town centre some 3 years ago, will stand trial next year.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Jordan Magee, of College Way, was driving a large JPC Demolition lorry near the junction of High Street and St James’ Square on 16th January 2023.
Tragically, Brigid O’Hara-Murray, from Totland, came into contact with the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of paramedics.
At a previous court hearing back in February, it was heard that the defendant, then 24 and from Bembridge, was operating a heavy goods vehicle and is accused of driving the vehicle in a manner that caused death by careless/inconsiderate driving.
The exact circumstances of how Mrs O’Hara-Murray ended up underneath the lorry remain unclear.
Mr Magee will next appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court for pre-trial review on 11th September, with a trial set for January 2027.
